THE Myanmar Press Coun­cil held talks with local print, broadcast, and online media yesterday morning at the ShweU Daung Hall of the News and Periodicals Enterprise, Botahtaung Township, Yangon.

 

At the meeting, Myanmar Press Council Chairman Dr Tin Tun Oo delivered a welcom­ing speech, while Vice-Chair­man (1) U Khin Maung Zaw and Vice-Chairman (2) U Khin Maung Kyaw Din explained matters related to media de­velopment and international relations, as well as domestic media development.

 

Journalists from 41 media groups who attended the meet­ing then made suggestions for developing the media sector, which were later explained and addressed by officials from the Myanmar Press Council.

 

Subsequently, the Nay Pyi Taw Crime and News Online Agency donated K1 million to the council to support media development.

 

The Myanmar Press Coun­cil has formed several commit­tees, including the Internation­al Relations Committee, Legal Affairs Committee, Media Eth­ics and Journalist Protection Committee, Audit Committee, Finance Committee, Dispute and Complaints Resolution Committee, Information Com­mittee, Media Development Committee, and Administra­tion Committee. The council is responsible for monitoring and improving the quality of the press, coordinating with relevant departments to facili­tate the import of media equip­ment, organizing and holding press-related workshops and seminars, collaborating with press organizations to recog­nize outstanding individuals, and drawing and implementing plans to improve the develop­ment of the media industry. — MNA/TH
