THE Myanmar canoe and kayak team returned home to a hero’s wel­come after securing 15 medals: ten golds, one silver and four bronzes at the 2025 Singapore Sprint Cup, held from 12 to 13 July in Singapore.

 

The event featured ten teams representing six coun­tries: Singapore, Australia, Hungary, Myanmar, Malaysia and Chinese Taipei. Myanmar’s athletes, representing the My­anmar Rowing Federation, de­livered a standout performance in multiple categories.

 

On the first day, Myanmar won gold in the men’s canoeing single 1000-metre, U18 men’s canoeing single 1000-metre, and U18 men’s canoeing sin­gle 500-metre events. The team also claimed one silver and one bronze in the U18 men’s kayak single 500-metre race.

 

Their success continued on the second day with gold medals in the men’s canoeing double 200-metre, men’s ca­noeing four 200-metre, men’s canoeing single 200-metre, U18 men’s canoeing single 200-metre, men’s canoeing single 500-metre, and men’s canoeing double 500-metre events. The team also earned bronze in the men’s canoeing four 500-metre and men’s kayak four 500-metre races. With this overall performance, Myanmar ranked first among the partici­pating nations.

 

A delegation of 11, includ­ing team leaders, coaches and athletes, returned to Yangon In­ternational Airport at 10:30 pm on 14 July. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, regional ministers, the Director-General of the Department of Sports and Physical Education, offi­cials from related departments, the chairman and members of supporting sports associations, representatives from the My­anmar Rowing Federation, fel­low athletes, trainees from the Sports and Physical Education Institute (Yangon), and families of the athletes gathered in large numbers to offer a warm and proud welcome. — MNA/KZL
