THE final day of the 2026 Asian Futsal Qualifiers Group H continued yesterday at the MFF Futsal Indoor Stadium in Thuwunna Youth Training Centre, Yangon, where Myanmar suffered an 8-0 defeat in Afghanistan.
Myanmar needed to avoid a heavy loss to keep alive hopes of qualifying as one of the best second-placed teams. However, this defeat has greatly reduced their chances. With Group D matches scheduled for 18 to 22 October, the full list of qualifiers will only be confirmed after those games conclude.
Despite their efforts, Myanmar struggled against Afghanistan’s superior strength, conceding six goals in the first half before shipping two more in the second.
At the end of Group H, Afghanistan advanced as group winners with six points, Myanmar finished second with three points, and the Maldives ended bottom without a point after two defeats.
The qualifiers are contested across eight groups, with the eight group winners and the seven best second-placed teams: 15 teams in total securing progression. — Shine Htet Zaw/KZL
