THE Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization (MyanTrade) reported that Khakaborazi honey, also known as Kyaukkanpa honey, is in high demand in the Chinese market and commands good prices locally.

It is a herbal honey found in wild beehives on the cliffs near Mount Khakaborazi in PutaO District, Kachin State.

Harvesting the honey is difficult because hunters must climb high mountains to reach the beehives. This honey is only available once a year, in May and June. Harvesters from Nagmon Village, located near the ice-capped mountain, usually spend about two months travelling on foot for a round trip.

The honey produced after the honeycombing process is sold in PutaO, but it never fetches a good price, resulting in a very low income for the indigenous farmers. After that, the MSME businessmen from Kachin State visited the area, bought the honey collected by all the minorities in bulk, and paid the locals a good price, it stated.

Businesses in Kachin State sell bottled Khakaborazi honey under their own brands, and it is preferred by locals and Chinese buyers due to its medicinal quality.
