Myeik, 22 September

Myeik Township in Tanintharyi Region has successfully completed the planting of 41,260 acres of rain-fed paddy for the 2025 season by the end of August, according to U Win Myat Soe, Head of the Township Agriculture Department.

To support farmers and achieve the target yield, 191 farmers from 11 village tracts—including Sanpya Village—received 1,300 baskets of good quality paddy seeds free of charge. Additionally, 15,326 baskets of seeds were cleaned using a modern seed-cleaning machine, and 1,800 bags of urea fertilizer were sold at reduced prices until 16 September.

Of the total acreage, 9,442 acres were cultivated using high-yield planting systems such as sowing, transplanting, and direct seeding, while 28,909 acres were planted with high-yielding rice varieties. The department also organized 12 educational seminars, six training sessions, and four field demonstrations to help boost productivity.

Last year, the same acreage produced 3,042,338 baskets of rice, with an average yield of 73.74 baskets per acre, according to the department.— Myint Oo (Myeik)
