Nearly 2,500 Afghan nationals detained in neighboring Iran and Pakistan have been released and returned to Afghanistan over the past month, the local media outlet Tolo news reported on Friday.
According to the report, most of the returnees had been detained for lacking valid residence documents or for overstaying their visas. The detainees spent between one day and two months in custody before being released and repatriated.
After returning to Afghanistan, the returnees were transferred to the relevant authorities, where their basic information was registered. Emergency assistance was provided, and coordination was made to facilitate their return to their home provinces, the report added.
