THE Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and the Myanmar Traditional Lethwei Federation supervised semifinals of the New Generation Lethwei Championship, organized by the Myanmar Traditional Tawwin Ayeya Lethwei Club. The event took place at 1 pm yesterday at Theinbyu Traditional Lethwei Arena in Yangon.
In the 55 kilogramme class, Shine Htet Oo (Lethwei WARRIORS) faced Sup Rain Aung (MAI). Sup Rain Aung requested a timeout in the first round due to a kicking strike, and Shine Htet Oo secured a knockout in that round. Meanwhile, Saw Ruby (YMA) also knocked out Nayla (Tawwin Ayeya) in the first round.
In the 60 kilogramme class, Aung Ko Oo (MFC) landed multiple punch combinations against Toe Lon (MK1), resulting in two referee counts in the first round. Toe Lon fought on bravely until the end of the third round, but Aung Ko Oo won on points. Kyaw Gyi (Tawwin Ayeya) and Key Paing (MK1) traded heavy blows, yet the decision went to Kyaw Gyi on points.
In 75 kilogramme class, in the bout between Shan Hsone (DOJO9 Club) and Nyi Htet (Wan Wan Club), Shan Hsone suffered an injury from a kick in the first round, and Nyi Htet was declared the winner by a doctor’s decision. In the contest between Khant Si Nay Win (Tawwin Ayeya) and Aubrey (MK1), the fight went the full three rounds, and Khant Si Nay Win won on points.
New generation double-rope bouts also took place and were crowd-pleasing matches. In the championship bouts, Shine Htet Oo (Lethwei WARRIORS) will meet Saw Ruby in the 55 kilogramme class, Aung Ko Oo (MFC) will face Kyaw Gyi (Tawwin Ayeya) in the sixty-kilogramme class, and Nyi Htet (Wan Wan Club) will take on Khant Si Nay Win in the 75 kilogramme class.
