THE Ngwehsaung Beach area in Ayeyawady Region will be established as a smoke-free zone, according to U Win Min Ko, the Administrator of Ngwehsaung.

It is understood that the process of establishing Ngwehsaung Beach as a smoke-free zone will be carried out in phases across the four urban wards and the various beach locations.

“The aim of making Ngwehsaung a smoke-free beach area is to ensure that both domestic and international tourists who visit the beach can enjoy a relaxing environment, and to reduce the potential for public health to be affected by cigarette smoke. To implement this, the beach area’s administrative committee and health organizations held an awareness-raising workshop at the township level, and discussions have already taken place to ensure wide dissemination of information among officials from the hotel zone, restaurants, and guest houses, as well as town elders, departmental officials, and ward administrative bodies,” said U Win Min Ko.

In addition to establishing a smoke-free zone, efforts are being made to ensure the security, cleanliness, and scenic beauty of the beach, as well as the availability of healthy food options, so that both local and foreign tourists can relax and enjoy their visit to Ngwehsaung Beach. — ASH/KNN
