THE National Seed-Related Committee (NSC) gave the green light to registration of 68 new seed varieties. Accord­ing to the 31st meeting held on 29 August at the meeting hall of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Of­fice 43 in Nay Pyi Taw, in the presence of officials concerned, Technical Working Groups, TWGs, and agronomists.

 

Deputy Minister Dr Tin Htut, who also acts as chair of the NSC, gave an opening re­mark. Director-General Dr Ye Tint Tun, secretary of the NSC, discussed and coordinated mat­ters raised by the attendees.

 

Technical Crop task forces and Technical Seed Commit­tee (TSC) inspected new crop seeds, including 31 agricultural crop seed varieties, 23 horti­cultural seed varieties, three industrial crop seed varieties and five parent seeds in accord­ance with the Seeds Law and bylaws and rules and decided to grant registration.

 

The NSC granted registra­tion for 2,033 seed varieties af­ter the 30th committee meeting, including 724 agricultural crop seed varieties, 938 horticultural seed varieties, 132 industrial crop seed varieties and 239 par­ent seeds.

 

Afterwards, Deputy Min­ister Dr Tin Htut and central committee members attend­ed the fifth work coordination meeting on the National New Plant Variety Protection Cen­tral Committee, highlighting future plans and providing the rights to breeders of new plants for some new plant varieties that have been inspected by the technical committee to develop the activities of plant breeding.

 

Of 49 new plant varieties seeking protection under the New Plant Protection Law, 12 varieties have been given the rights after its 4th meeting. — NN/KK
