The show treated audiences to a rich variety of performances, including collaborative acts between humans and puppets, puppet-only programmes, presentations by the Shwe Pyi Theinga Art Troupe, and traditional Myanmar musical renditions featuring instruments such as the Pattala (xylophone) and Saung (traditional Myanmar harp).

APPROXIMATELY 700 people attended the Traditional Myanmar Puppet Show organized by the International Relations Committee of the Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA) and held at the Secretariat (former Ministers’ Office), Yangon, on 9 November, with two sessions from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm, according to the UMTA.

 

UMTA reported that attendees includ­ed member travel companies, individuals from various organizations, students from International Schools, and the general public.

 

The show featured performances combining humans and puppets, pup­pet-only programmes, presentations by the Shwe Pyi Theinga Art Troupe, and performances using traditional Myanmar musical instruments like the Pattala and Saung.

 

The opening ceremony of the “Tradi­tional Myanmar Puppet Show and Sales Festival” was attended by various dig­nitaries, including the director-general and the deputy director of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, UMTA officials together with U Khin Zaw (Patron), and ambassadors and diplomats from inter­national embassies.

 

After the shows, attendees were of­fered a guided heritage tour of the historic site, arranged by the Secretariat of Yangon. Furthermore, the UMTA and the Myan­mar Arts and Crafts Association signed an MOU during the event. — MT/ZN
