Paukkaung, 2 September

Paukkaung Township in Bago Region has planted a total of 15,343 acres of rain-fed groundnuts this year. As of now, 3,515 acres have been harvested, producing a total yield of 250,092 baskets, according to local agricultural sources.

Farmers in the township cultivated groundnuts, an important oilseed crop, in line with the Department of Agriculture’s guidelines. A groundnut grower from Wet Toe Village noted that yields have improved compared to last year, thanks to favorable weather conditions.

The higher productivity has contributed to greater efficiency in local edible oil production. The Department of Agriculture is reportedly prioritizing the distribution of high-yield, quality groundnut varieties and promoting effective, farmer-friendly cultivation techniques to further support the sector.— Phone Kyaw Zin (IPRD)
