Paukkhaung Township in Pyay District, Bago Region, has successfully completed the planting of 39,164 acres of rain-fed sesame, meeting its seasonal target. Yields this year are reported to be promising.
A total of 39,164 acres of sesame have been cultivated since May, comprising 7,200 acres of Sin Yadana-3, 31,637 acres of Sin Yadana-14, and 327 acres of Magway Sesam-2/14. The crop is scheduled for harvest in August. To support farmers, the Township Agriculture Department is providing guidance on agricultural inputs and best practices to enhance yields and reduce production costs.
Harvesting began in August. So far, 3,811 acres have been harvested, with an average yield of 17.30 baskets per acre—a notable improvement over last year’s performance. A local sesame farmer expressed commitment to maintaining efforts toward achieving target yields.— Phone Kyaw Zin (IPRD)
