Paukkhoung Township to mark centenary of Laymyethna Pagoda

The Buddha Pujaniya festival to mark centenary of the Laymyethna Pagoda will be held on a grand scale in Paukkhoung Township, Bago Region commencing 20 January in conjunction with conveyance of the Buddha tooth relic.

 

The Buddha Pujaniya festival has been annually held starting from the full moon day of the Pyatho. We have systematically prepared to celebrate the Buddha Pujaniya festival to mark centenary of the Laymyethna Pagoda. We will convey the Buddha tooth relic along the streets in Paukkhoung on 23 January in order to be paid homage by the residents, said U Thant Zin, Secretary of the pagoda board of trustees.

 

The Buddha Pujaniya festival of Laymyethna Pagoda will be held from 20 to 26 January along with entertainment programmes to be performed by popular vocalists, cultural troupes and local dance groups.—Than Tun Aung (Paukkhoung)
