Pekhon 5 June
A ceremony to present paddy seeds for poppy substitution to farmers was held at the meeting room of the Department of Agriculture in Pekhon Township, Southern Shan State on 4 June.
On the occasion, the deputy township administrator U Zaw Soe Moe gave a speech and an official from the Department of Agriculture explained the purpose of giving quality paddy seeds for poppy substitution. Afterwards, concerned officials presented quality paddy seeds worth Ks. 2.532 million for 100 acres of farmlands to farmers from two village-tracts. A farmer then expressed words of gratitude.
The Department of Agriculture provided quality paddy seeds to farmers with the aim of helping then eliminate poppy cultivation, grow quality seeds and apply good agricultural methods.—Ko Htwe (IPRD)
