THE Thai state-owned energy company PTTEP has announced that, under Development Project Phase 1E, four new platforms will be installed and subsea pipeline connection works carried out at the M-9 offshore block in the Mottama region.

The installation of the four new platforms and the subsea pipeline works will commence on 20 September 2025 and are scheduled to be completed by 28 February 2026.

During the implementation period, a four-kilometre maritime safety zone has been declared around the worksite to prevent delays or disruptions to operations.

At the M-9 offshore block, a total of 17 appraisal wells are planned for drilling. In 2018, five exploration wells were drilled, leading to the discovery of a commercially viable natural gas deposit, according to PTTEP’s statement. The current drilling activities are expected to help meet future energy demand and support the Zawtika project area, which is operated under licence by Thailand.

PTTEP, a Thai state-owned enterprise, has made significant investments in Myanmar’s Zawtika and M-3 natural gas projects, and on 9 April 2025, signed an agreement with Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) to cooperate in enhancing natural gas production at the Yadana offshore project, according to information released by the Ministry of Energy. — ASH/KNN
