Pwintbyu, 4 August
Pwintbyu Township in Minbu District, Magway Region, has successfully harvested 6,239 acres of green gram planted during the pre-monsoon season, according to the Pwintbyu Township Agriculture Department. The yields have been promising, helping to boost farmers' incomes and making cultivation more profitable.
This year, a total of 6,391 acres of green gram were planted across the township. Harvesting began in the first week of July, and as of now, 6,239 acres have been harvested, with an average yield of 19.40 bushels per acre.
Officials from the Pwintbyu Township Agriculture Department have advised local farmers preparing for the rainy season planting to use high-quality seeds, apply proper cultivation techniques, and take preventive measures against pests. The Ministry of Agriculture is also supporting awareness programs focused on the systematic use of fertilizers and inputs, timely harvesting, and proper storage of crops.
“If we can improve green gram cultivation and increase yields, it will not only meet local consumption needs but also generate income through surplus sales and enhance the socio-economic conditions of our community. Therefore, efforts should be made to expand green gram cultivation across the township,” said Daw Moe Moe Wai, staff officer of the Township Department of Agriculture.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
