Pwintbyu, 17 October

Local farmers in Pwintbyu Township plan to cultivate 121 acres of niger seed during the upcoming winter crop season to support local edible oil production and increase agricultural income, according to the Pwintbyu Township Agriculture Department.

Planting is scheduled to begin in November, aiming to meet the designated cultivation target. To ensure successful production, the Township Agriculture Department will provide on-site technical assistance, including guidance on modern farming practices and the selection of quality seed varieties for easier cultivation and higher yields.

With favorable water availability and fertile farmland, farmers in the Township are focusing on niger seed as a key winter crop to help ensure an adequate supply of locally produced edible oil. Last year, although the official target was set at 115 acres, actual cultivation reached 328 acres, significantly exceeding expectations.

Building on that success, the Department of Agriculture is collaborating closely with local farmers this year to achieve the target of 121 acres of niger seed cultivation.— Hlaing Win Lay (Pwintbyu Myay)
