e attire of six Spirits. We will continue to portray the clothing and ceremonial customs of all 37 Spirits,” said Myat Theinkha Nge.
They are reconstructing the royal dresses and accessories by referencing ancient manuscripts, traditional paintings, and murals, consulting with historians and cultural experts to ensure accuracy.
“Based on the ancient manuscripts, murals and drawings on the 37 Spirits, we remade their costumes in detail. Among them, some were kings, some ministers. Depending on their ranks, we had to remake the design,” Myat Theinkha Nge explained.
This revival project not only preserves Myanmar’s intangible cultural heritage, spanning over a millennium, but also offers insights into the evolution of Myanmar fashion across different eras. It can also attract certain interest among the youth, regarding the Spirits.
Once all Once all 37 Spirits are fully recreated, the team plans to publish a bilingual documentary book in English and Myanmar featuring their photographs and historical summaries. — MT/ZN
