A fish stocking ceremony was held this morning at Kanthonesint Lake in Pathein Township, Ayeyarwady Region. The event was attended by Ayeyarwady Region Chief Minister U Tin Maung Win and his wife, members of the regional government and their spouses, regional, district, and township-level departmental officials, as well as members of the public.
To begin the ceremony, the chairperson explained the objectives of the fish stocking initiative. Following the address, the Chief Minister, regional ministers, officials, and invited guests released 200,000 barbus fish and 200,000 rohu into the lake.
With the aim of promoting sustainable fishery resource conservation, enhancing fish biodiversity, ensuring long-term fish supply, and supporting local livelihoods, the Fisheries Department has set a target of releasing 7.58 million two-inch fish into rivers, streams, lakes, and ponds across the region. As of now, 57.46 million fish have already been released.— Region IPRD
