A Myanmar delegation led by State Administration Council Member, Deputy Prime Min­ister and Union Minister for Transport and Communica­tions General Mya Tun Oo at­tended the 2nd Digital Economy Forum of the Shanghai Cooper­ation Organization (SCO) held in Tianjin, China from 9 to 12 July.

 

The forum included a min­isterial-level closed-door meet­ing, open sessions, thematic discussions, and expert lec­tures from Tianjin universities. On 10 July, General Mya Tun Oo joined other international delegates at a welcome dinner hosted by Mr Liu Liehong, Min­ister of China’s National Data Administration.

 

In his remarks at the dinner, General Mya Tun Oo highlighted both opportunities and challenges in implement­ing the digital economy and stressed the importance of international cooperation in overcoming these challeng­es. He reaffirmed Myanmar’s commitment to actively coop­erating with SCO members in developing the digital economy.

 

Before the dinner, Myan­mar’s delegation held cordial discussions with the Secre­tary-General of Tianjin Munic­ipal Committee and the Mayor of Tianjin.

 

At the forum’s opening on 11 July, Chinese Vice Premier Mr Ding Xuexiang and other senior officials delivered ad­dresses. On the occasion, Gen­eral Mya Tun Oo stated that the digital economy is trans­forming societies and business operations, becoming a vital ar­tery for future development. He emphasized Myanmar’s aim to build an inclusive, secure and robust digital economy for national benefit.

 

He called on SCO mem­ber countries to jointly address digital economy challenges and build a trustworthy and resilient digital future. Minis­ters from SCO countries also shared updates on their na­tional digital transformation initiatives.

 

More than 600 delegates participated in the forum this year. As part of the event, the Myanmar delegation visited the Smart Zero-Carbon Container Terminal and Binhai New Area Museum on 9 July, the Tianjin City Planning Exhibition on 10 July, the G7 Connect Company on 11 July and Fit Testing Tech­nology on 12 July to observe the application of AI, big data, and IoT technologies.

 

The delegation returned to Yangon on the afternoon of 13 July. — MNA/KZL
