Wakema, 14 July

A section of the riverbank along the Shwe Laung River in Upper Pekon Village, Wakema Township, Ayeyarwady Region, collapsed at around 8 a.m. on July 12 due to erosion.

As a result, seven houses near the riverbank were demolished. Affected families have been temporarily relocated to stay with relatives. Fortunately, there were no injuries to people or animals.

U Maung Maung, Chairman of the Myaungmya District Administration Body, along with township officials, the head of the Township Fire Services Department, firefighters, and members of the We Love Shwe Laung charity organization, visited the site of the collapse. They provided aid including five bags of rice (distributed at three baskets per person), dried noodles, and bread.

Officials, led by the Chairman, inspected the damaged area and gave instructions on preventive measures to protect the riverbank from further erosion and minimize future risks. Firefighters and local organizations assisted with the evacuation and relocation of residents.— Hluan Thiha (Wakema)
