Hailing 2114 Shan Era, a ceremony to pay respect to Shan doyen literati was held in conjunction with an opening of a Shan New Year celebration at a ground in Homein Town, Southern Shan State on 24 November.


Shan New Year festival was formally opened by Tactical Commanding Officer Col Myo Min Latt, Vice-Chairman of Homein People’s Militia U Khun Toe Aung, Town Administrator U Hsan Win, the chairman on organizing the Shan New Year Festival and concerned officials by cutting a ceremonial ribbon. The Shan New Year festival has been annually held with the aim of preserving Shan culture, language, and literature. The event is being celebrated from 24 to 28 November on a grand scale, said U Sai Maung Lu, Chairman on organizing the Shan New Year Festival.


The festival is being commemorated along with literary talks; entertainment programmes such as traditional dance and song performed by artistes from local Shan literature and cultural association.—Ye Naung (Homein)
