CURRENT champions Shan United secured an away vic­tory and officially established themselves as the mid-season champions of the Myanmar Na­tional League MNL.

 

On 5 January, Dagon Star United defeated Rakhine Unit­ed 2-0, while Dagon Port beat Ramanya United 7-2. On 6 Jan­uary, Shan United recorded a 4-0 victory over ISPE, and Yangon United defeated Maha United 4-0. Meanwhile, Ayeyawady United and Thitsa Amarn drew 0-0.

 

Shan United’s away win allowed them to finish three points ahead of second-placed Yangon United, confirming their mid-season championship. Shan United’s goals were scored by Ye Yint Aung in the first minute, Thurein Tun in 83 minutes, Myat Kaung Khaunt in 90+3 min­utes, and Khun Kyaw Zin Hein in 90+4 minutes. This victory extended Shan United’s unbeat­en streak, which has lasted 89 matches since the 2020 season.

 

For Yangon United, sec­ond-half goals secured their win over Maha United. Head coach U Zaw Lwin Htun could not manage the team on the field due to health reasons, so U Than Wai served as interim head coach. Yangon United’s goals were scored by Mo Gu in 49 minutes, Rintaro Hama in 64 and 86 minutes, and Kaung Si Thu in 83 minutes.

 

The final mid-season match will continue today at Thuwunna Youth Training Centre, where Yadanabon FC will face Han­thawady United. — Ko Nyi Lay/ KZL
