THE 2025-2026 ASEAN Club Championship resumes today with the opening match of Group B, where Myanmar’s Shan United will take on Cambodia’s Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng.
For the final stage of the tournament, Group A features reigning champions Buriram United (Thailand), Pathum United (Thailand), Selangor (Malaysia), Công An Hà Nội (Vietnam), Tampines Rovers (Singapore), and CEBU (Philippines). Group B includes Bangkok United (Thailand), Johor Darul Ta’zim (Malaysia), Nam Định (Vietnam), Lion City Sailors (Singapore), Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng (Cambodia), and Shan United (Myanmar).
The group stage matches will run from August 2025 through February 2026. Shan United is scheduled to play five matches in total – two at home and three away. In the preliminary rounds earlier this month, Shan United won both legs against Lao club EZRA, with a combined score of 3-1.
According to the match schedule, Shan United will kick off against Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng at 6 pm today at the Thuwunna Youth Training Centre in Yangon. A pre-match press briefing was held on 20 August, attended by head coaches and team captains from both sides.
Shan United head coach Hiro said, “Tomorrow’s match will not be easy. We will approach it carefully, learning from last year’s experiences and preparing our best this season. The opponent is stronger than last year, so we have to play smart and focused”. Team captain Nanda Kyaw added, “We have improved both our results and gameplay compared to last year. Players and coaches have trained meticulously, and even the chairman has been closely involved, so we hope for positive outcomes this season”.
This marks Shan United’s second consecutive participation in the ASEAN Club Championship. In addition to the ASEAN Club matches, the team will also compete in the AFC Challenge League this season. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
