THE Shwedagon Pagoda Board of Trustees held the Sabbath-keeping ritual during Buddhist Lent for Myanmar Era 1387 at the Buddha Images open building at 9:30 am on 14 September, in the presence of rotating Ovadacariya Sayadaws.

It was organized by the board in order to allow the devotees to observe moral precepts on the Sabbath days during Lent.

The ceremony was attended by the board members, the staff of the board, religious service groups, donors and pilgrims, and they observed nine precepts under the guidance of Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Ganda Vasaka Pandita Bhadanta Gunha Linkara (Sayadaw of Maha Theindawgyi Pariyatti Monastery, Pabedan Township).

Following the precept observance, the attendees donated robes and offertories to the Sayadaws, who preached a meritorious discourse, and shared their good deeds with all creatures by symbolically pouring drops of water.

After the ceremony, the board offered lunch to the Sayadaws, monks and participating devotees. — Htun Htun/ZN
