MR Evgeny Grigoryev, Chair of the Committee for External Re­lations of the Saint Petersburg City Government, and his wife visited Shwedagon Pagoda yes­terday morning in Yangon.

 

They toured the pagoda compound, donated cash offer­ings to the Board of Trustees, and received a certificate of honour in return. They also fed fish at the pond of Shin Uppagutta statue near the northern stairway of the pagoda.

 

Meanwhile, Mr Vyacheslav Kalganov, Vice-Chair of the Com­mittee for External Relations, and his delegation, together with Yangon Region Minister for Social Affairs U Htay Aung, attended the award ceremony for the Russia-Myanmar Friendship Painting Competition for basic education students held at Ba­sic Education High School No 1 Thanlyin at 10 am yesterday.

 

They viewed the winning art­works and enjoyed students per­forming the “Myanma Kyaung” (Myanmar School Song). Both the regional minister and the Russian vice-chair delivered remarks at the event. Students from Basic Education High School No 2 Thanlyin also pre­sented a poem and dance per­formance before the officials awarded prizes to the winners.

 

Mr Kalganov later presented souvenir flower baskets to the performing students. The dele­gation then visited the Thanlyin District Administration Office, where both sides discussed co­operation in agriculture, health­care, and economic development in a spirit of friendship.

 

In the afternoon, the delega­tion visited the Thilawa Special Economic Zone and the Chitchin Myitta Charity Home in Sayboe­wa Village, Kyauktan Township, to observe social welfare activi­ties. — MNA/KZL
