Myeik, 11 September

Tanintharyi Region has successfully completed the planting of 212,029 acres of paddy for the 2025–2026 rainy season, according to the Tanintharyi Region Agriculture Department.

This year, the region had set a target of planting 222,396 acres of paddy. Planting began in June and continued through the end of August, with 212,029 acres already cultivated.

In the previous fiscal year (2024–2025), the same acreage target was met, yielding an average of 73.20 baskets per acre, resulting in a total production of 16,279,566 baskets of paddy.

To enhance productivity this season, farmers in designated "target yield smart villages" received free agricultural inputs, including: 2,820 baskets of high-yielding rice varieties (Sinthukha and GW-11), 1,410 bags of chemical fertilizer and 5,640 bags of organic fertilizer.

Additionally, 100 baskets of the Aung Naing Toe variety, known for its high yield, were also distributed, all of which are suited to the soil and water conditions of the Tanintharyi Region.— Myint Oo (Myeik)
