Torrential rain in Thandaung Township, Kayin State, caused the destruction of two bridges and a house at around 8:00 a.m. today.

The first bridge—a reinforced concrete structure measuring 80 feet in length, 18 feet in width, and 12 feet in height—connected the Thandaung–Taungoo Road to Anawrahta Road. It was completely destroyed by floodwaters, resulting in an estimated loss of Ks 600 million.

The second bridge which connects to the Kaung Myanmar Aung Company’s plantation and measures 40 feet long, 10 feet wide, and 12 feet high, also sustained damage, with estimated losses of Ks 15 million.

In addition, a one-story brick house measuring 10 feet in length, 12 feet in width, and 8 feet in height was swept away by the water, causing damage estimated at Ks 0.5 million.

Fortunately, no casualties or loss of livestock were reported. Relevant departments have stated that efforts are underway to repair the damaged infrastructure as quickly as possible.—Naw Naw Mu
