Two Myanmar clubs have opportunity to compete in AFC Cup

Two Myanmar domestic foot­ball clubs is slated to compete in the 2023-2024 season of AFC Cup, according to the Asian Football Confederation.

 

The 2022 Myanmar Nation­al League champion Shan Unit­ed will compete in the group stage and the first runners-up Yangon United will battle in the pre-qualification stage.

 

Yangon United will face Brunei Club Kazuka in the pre-qualification stage.

 

If the Yangon team can pass this stage, they will have to play away match against the Indonesian club Makassar in the qualifying play-off stage.

 

Myanmar clubs will take part in the ASEAN zone, which will be divided into three groups, with 12 contending teams.

 

Drawing-lots ceremony for the AFC Cup competition will be held on 24 August, and Shan United team is partici­pating in Pot-3 with Malaysian and the Philippines clubs in line with the sedan specifica­tion.

 

The qualifiers will be held in August, and the ASE­AN zone group matches will be played at home and away system from September to De­cember. — Ko Nyi Lay/GNLM
