Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn, leading the Myan­mar delegation, attended the opening ceremony of the 21st China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CA­BIS) held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, People’s Republic of China, on the morning of 24 September. Myanmar Ambassador to China U Tin Maung Swe accompanied the delegation.

 

The ceremony featured opening remarks from Chinese Vice-Premier Mr Han Zheng and deputy prime ministers from Cambodia, the Lao Peo­ple’s Democratic Republic, and Vietnam. Additionally, Malay­sian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim addressed the event via video message. Following the opening, Union Minister U Tun Ohn, along with other ASEAN and Chinese leaders, jointly inaugurated the Expo and Summit by pressing a cer­emonial button.

 

The Union minister later toured the Myanmar exhibition booths, where local business­es were showcasing a variety of goods. Myanmar’s partici­pation in the Expo includes 84 booths featuring a diverse range of products such as Ar­abica coffee, agricultural pro­duce, fishery products, small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) goods, handicrafts, and gemstones.

 

The 21st China-ASEAN Expo and Business Summit aim to strengthen friendship, mutual respect, and sustainable development between China and ASEAN member states. The event is also focused on promoting the development of China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA) 3.0 and fostering high-quality regional growth. On the afternoon of 23 Septem­ber, the Union minister, along­side other officials, inaugurated the Myanmar booth. — MNA/ KZL
