Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko received Mr. Zhao Jin, Member of the Standing Committee and Director of the Publicity Department of Yunnan Provincial Party Committee of People’s Republic of China at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture (Yangon Office) yesterday morning.
At the meeting, matters relating to culture and religion were discussed. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister U Kyi Min and officials from the People’s Republic of China embassy. Later in the afternoon, Union Minister Thura U Aung Ko paid respects to Ovadacariya (Patron) Sayadaws, assistants and Sanghas at the 71st Tipitakadhara Tipitaka Kawvida Selection examinations. The examinations were being held from 28 December 2018 to 29 January 2019, with 228 Sanghas sitting for the oral recitation examination. The examinations were overseen by 11 Ovadacariya Sayadaws, 124 assistant Sayadaws and 66 officials from the Department of Religious Affairs. After observing the examinations, the Union Minister provided cash donations to Ovadacariya Sayadaws and assistant Sayadaws.—MNA (Translated by Zaw Min)
