Vaccination against cervical cancer conducted in Namhsan Township

Medical workers from the Township Department of Public Health under Ministry of Health began mass vaccination campaign to prevent women from cervical cancer at the B.E.H.S. in Ward-2 in Namhsan Township of southern Shan State at 9:00 am on 18 September.

Medical workers led by Dr. Myo Min Khaing, the Township medical superintendent vaccinated girls between nine and ten years old with human papillomavirus vaccine in collaboration with volunteers.

Also present on the occasion were Chairman of the Township Administration Council U Kyaw Moe, Chairperson of the Township Maternal and Child Welfare Association Daw Ommar Win and members, members of the Township Women’s Affair Federation, headmistress of the school Daw Mon Mon Myint and teachers.

A total of 3783 girls including 3290 students and 493 girls who are out of school aged between nine and 12 are targeted to vaccinate to prevent from cervical cancer at the designated vaccination sites in the Township. Currently, medical workers are conducting the vaccination campaign in seven basic education schools in the Township, according to the Township medical superintendent.—Thura Aung(Namhsan)
