A water pipeline project was inaugurated in Kanthayar Village, Gwa Township in Rakhine State this morning.

The water supply project was jointly built by the local government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the financial assistance of the government of Japan.

At the ceremony, Chief Minister of Rakhine State U Nyi Pu gave a speech and a representative from the Japanese Embassy clarified the purpose of donation. Next, the country representative from the UNDP spoke words of thanks and an official from the construction company handed over documents relating to the water pipeline project to the Department of Rural Development.

Afterwards, the chief minister, Japanese official, UNDP’s country representative and Director of the DRD U Aung Myo Lin unveiled the water supply structure by cutting a ceremonial ribbon and sprinkled scented water on the stone plaque.—Min Myint Mo (Ngazun)
