The head of the World Health Organization says he will self-quarantine after coming into contact with someone who has tested positive for the coronavirus.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus tweeted on Sunday, "I have been identified as a contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID19."
He said, "I am well and without symptoms."
But he added that he will self-quarantine over the coming days, in line with WHO protocols, and work from home.
Tedros also tweeted, "It is critically important that we all comply with health guidance."
He said, "My WHO colleagues and I will continue to engage with partners in solidarity to save lives and protect the vulnerable."
Since September, the number of coronavirus cases in Europe has been rising more sharply than in the spring.
The Swiss authorities have decided to impose restrictions on restaurants, bars and theaters in Geneva -- the home of the WHO headquarters -- from Monday night.
