Women’s Football Final: Myanmar miss gold with 0-2 defeat to Viet Nam

May 16

DUE to a 0-2 loss to Viet Nam, Myanmar was satisfied with a silver medal during the XXXII SEA Games Women’s Football final match played at Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh, Cambodia yesterday.

Both teams pushed the pace of the game high from the start.

Viet Nam found their first goal at 12 minutes as the Myanmar goalkeeper made a mistake when she left the goal at the wrong time, and Captain Huynh Nhu quickly tapped the ball into the empty net.

Myanmar responded with long passes right after conceding.

From a free kick on the left, Lin Myint Mo tried to score but the ball hit the bar.

Myanmar made two early substitutions at 17 minutes as they were eager to make equalizers.

In the later minutes, both sides played an equal attack.

The first half ended with Viet Nam leading 1-0.

In search of the equalizers, team Myanmar pushed forward right after the whistle.

Myanmar relied on short passes but Viet Nam’s defence was too strong for the counterplay.

At the 76 minutes, Viet Nam produced their winning or second goal with a touch of Thanh Nha.

Despite allowing 2-goals, the Myanmar team did not give up and continued to attack, but the fortune did not stay at the side.

At the final whistle, Viet Nam celebrated over Myanmar by a score of 2-0 and won the gold medal for the XXXII SEA Games Women’s Football Event while Myanmar finished second and garnered the silver. Team Thailand took the bronze as they beat host Cambodia 6-0 in the third-place match. — KZL
