THE ceremony of the presentation of the copies of World Tipitaka 2016 Editions by the World Tipitaka Foundation of Thailand to the International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University (ITBMU) took place at the university in Yangon yesterday.
It was attended by the Sayadaws led by International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University Rector Sayadaw Dr Bhaddanta Chekinda, director-general of the Department for the Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana, the pro-rector (admin) of the ITBMU, the Thai ambassador to Myanmar, relevant Thai representatives, ambassadors from foreign embassies, members, patrons, chairperson and secretaries of the World Tipitaka Foundation and Lay Kyun Thu Foundation.
At the ceremony, the director-general of the Department for the Promotion and Propagation of the Sasana made a greeting speech, and representative Ms Chatbenja Nandhabiwat from the Thai royal palace remarked on behalf of the Thai ambassador and the World Tipitaka Foundation.
The Thai ambassador and royal attendant of the Thai King’s mother, Ms Thanpuying Chatkeo Nandhabiwat, donated Tipitaka copies to the Rector Sayadaw, and the Sayadaw gave back a mosaic painting of the university as a gift.
Dr Bhaddanta Acinna, department head of Pariyatti of the university, delivered words of appreciation. — MNA/KTZH
