Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief, and Resettlement Dr Soe Win participated in the 29th Myanmar-Thailand Case Management Meeting on Repatriation and Reintegration of Victims of Trafficking. The event, jointly organized by the Ministry of Social Welfare and its Thai counterpart, took place at the Park Royal Hotel in Yangon Region.

During the meeting, the Union minister underscored the significance of bilateral cooperation between the two nations, considering it as a positive example for the region. The primary objective of the gathering was to implement the memorandum of understanding aimed at combating human trafficking.

Under this initiative, the ministry offers support amounting to US$500 for victims. The Thai government plays a crucial role by providing shelter to trafficked victims from Myanmar, assisting them in securing employment, and offering support and compensation.

Ms Sarah Binyoh, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, stressed the detrimental impact of human trafficking on human rights and integrity. She affirmed the Thai government’s proactive stance in preventing and combatting this issue, aligning with international human rights standards.

The meeting concluded with the approval of 13 decisions. — MNA/NT
