Forest Department under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is implementing various ways including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) to put down illegal logging and trading of forest products in collaboration with the people in the country.

 

From March 4 to 10 this year, the combined team confiscated a total of 162.94 tons of illegal timber including 24.16 tons of teak, 24.54 tons of hardwood and 114.23 tons of other types of timbers in the country, according to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, the State and Regional Forest Departments.

 

In addition, a total of 10 culprits were apprehended in connection with the cases along with six vehicles and machines, according to the Forest Department.—MNA
