A roundtable discussion on the benefits of the upcoming election in Myanmar, current political situations and eco­nomic conditions was held on 21 July in Yangon and attend­ed by personnel from politics and economics.

 

The talk titled “Current Domestic Instability due to Political, Economic and So­cial Situations, and Benefits of Election” took place from 2 to 4 pm at the Orchid Hotel, Botahtaung Township, Yangon Region.

 

The moderator was U Win Maw (Shwe Thansin). At the same time, participants in the discussion included U Kyaw Thu Aung, general secretary of the National Political Al­liances Party, economist U Than Soe (Economics), U Thein Tun Oo, executive direc­tor of the ThayNinGa Institute for Strategic Studies and ex-88 student leader U Nyo Tun.

 

They discussed the mer­its of the upcoming election, recent developments in the economic sector, suggestions, the security situation and the need for public cooperation.

 

In addition, the partici­pants talked about the role of public engagement in the election, the advantages of the Proportional Representation (PR) System, and proper/im­proper ways regarding exter­nal attempts to influence.

 

Some personalities from politics, including U Zozam, a veteran politician and ex- MP Daw Khin Waing Kyi, and members of the media attend­ed the discussion. — Thuta Kyaw/ZN
