PAINTING created with natural Mogok gems has gained popularity and the trade has increased.
The gemstone painting business has already developed in Mogok for a long and has recently begun to expand in Mandalay.
“Gemstone painting has drawn much attention over recent years. It is good for giving as a gift. The idea of making portrait paintings with gemstones has been quite popular now; there are two types of painting — art on photo and art on painting. The gemstone painting has begun popular and the trade has begun fine,” said an official from Shwe gemstone art painting in Mandalay.
The gemstone paintings are now widely used for giving as gifts for housewarming celebrations, shop openings and as souvenirs.
Price varies depending on size and type. Like gemstone art painting, Bagan’s sand painting which also attracted foreign tourists deserves to be conserved as an art. — Thit Taw/ZS
