TWO Indian naval vessels carrying humanitarian aid, relief supplies and foodstuffs arrived at Thilawa Port, MITT in Yangon yesterday morning. These supplies are intended for use in rescue and rehabilitation efforts in earthquake-affected areas. Officials from the Myanmar Navy and relevant departments welcomed the ships upon their arrival.
Following the arrival, a handover ceremony for the relief materials and food was held. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, the Yangon Command commander, regional government ministers, Myanmar Navy officials, the Indian ambassador to Myanmar and other relevant officials attended the event.
During the ceremony, Cmde Prashant Handu NM from the Indian Navy and the Indian ambassador to Myanmar spoke about the relief aid. The ambassador then formally handed over the supplies to Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, who expressed gratitude and presented a commemorative gift in return.
The Indian Navy ships delivered essential commodities, basic food items and medical supplies, which will be distributed to affected communities under the supervision of the Yangon Region government. More relief supplies and food will continue to arrive by Indian naval vessels. — MNA/KZL
