Mandalay, 20 May

Under the guidance of the regional government, the Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC), is carrying out earthquake relief and recovery efforts, including the construction of 150 container houses to temporarily accommodate its employees affected by the recent earthquake.

The container units are being set up along 66th, 35th and 36th Streets, with site leveling and construction is currently in progress. As of 20 May, 20 units have been completed, according to an MCDC official.

Of the total 150 container houses, 64 are designated for government officials and 86 for non-gazetted staff. The area is also being equipped with access roads between the units. Each container measures 20 feet in length, 10 feet in width, and 8.5 feet in height.

MCDC is also working to demolish and clear earthquake-damaged structures, build temporary shelters for those displaced, and ensure the provision of clean drinking water and sanitation facilities, all under the direction and supervision of the regional government.— Maung Aye Chan
