THE Committee on the Devel­opment of a Resilient and Strong Social Community held its meet­ing yesterday afternoon via an online system at the conference hall of the Ministry 2 at the Of­fice of the State Administration Council Chairman in Nay Pyi Taw.

 

Union Minister for Ministry 2 at the Office of the State Admin­istration Council Chairman U Ko Ko Hlaing, who is also the Chair­man of the Social Committee, addressed the meeting, stating that upcoming activities would focus on natural disaster risk management as a foundation for mobilizing and encouraging ef­forts to build resilient and strong communities. He noted that cer­tain tasks must be coordinated at the Union level, led by regional and state authorities, with Un­ion agencies supporting the implementation. Coordination with international and domestic civil society organizations is also essential.

 

He added that the interna­tional community had shown sympathy and a willingness to cooperate, and that such sup­port, when combined with do­mestic contributions and social unity, would enable an effective response to natural disasters. He called on all stakeholders to work collectively to overcome such challenges.

 

Next, Deputy Minister U Myint Soe, who is the committee secretary, presented the com­mittee’s objectives, duties and implementation plans.

 

Participants discussed pre­paredness measures to mobi­lise public strength according to levels of disaster risk, emer­gency response plans and public participation in reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts. They also addressed support for dis­placed populations through the National Disaster Management Committee’s emergency funds, distribution of donations to af­fected regions and task-specific action plans.

 

The committee chairman concluded the meeting by provid­ing guidance and coordination on necessary matters. — MNA/KZL
