ABOUT 120 Myanmar workers who are going to work in Japan under the management of licensed overseas employment agencies have been allowed to attend the overseas job training course and apply for the Overseas Worker Identification Card (OWIC), said the Department of Labour.

The workers – two male Myanmar workers and 117 Myanmar female workers – will have to attend the job training on 8 January and apply for OWIC on 9 January, and they will need to resubmit if they are unable to do so by the schedule.

Currently, most job offers are for food manufacturing, restaurants and elderly care centres and skilled workers are much needed, said an official from an overseas employment agency.

“We have received job offers. Most factory jobs are offered to women workers. For male workers, most are construction jobs only. Job interviews are being conducted regularly. They prefer women for skilled workers rather than trainees,” he said.

Agencies will need to resubmit an Excel soft copy of the list of sending workers, a copy of the passport and a copy of OWIC within a week of the departure date to the Department of Labour via dolmigrationjapan@gmail.com. — MT/ZS
