THE Republic of the Union of Myanmar held a ceremony yes­terday morning at the meeting hall of Asia World Port Terminal, Yangon Port, in Ahlon Township, to donate 500 tonnes of rice, equivalent to 10,000 bags, to people affected by a cyclone in Sri Lanka.

 

Those attending the cere­mony included Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Deputy Minister for Social Wel­fare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Than Soe, Yangon Region min­isters, Sri Lankan Ambassador to Myanmar Mrs Prabashni Pon­namperuma, the Director-Gen­eral of the Department of Stra­tegic Studies and Training under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, departmental officials, Myanmar Rice Federation Chairman U Ye Min Aung and its members; and other responsible officials.

 

At the event, the deputy minister for Social Welfare, Re­lief and Resettlement delivered opening remarks, after which the Myanmar Rice Federation chairperson explained the ship­ping plan and preparedness ar­rangements.

 

The Sri Lankan ambassador to Myanmar then expressed her gratitude. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein formally handed over the documents for the donation of 500 tonnes of rice (10,000 bags) to the ambassador.

 

Afterwards, the Yangon Region chief minister and his party inspected the containers prepared for transporting the 500 tonnes of rice (10,000 bags). — Zwe Htet Ko (IPRD)/KZL
