With the aim of boosting the income of local people and their socio-economic status, Chin State Government provided assistance to local farmers in the cultivation of the elephant foot yam, also known as the whitesport giant arum in Tedim Township, Chin State.
Due to the assistance of the state government, croplands of elephant foot yam are increasing in the Township.
“It is important to grow elephant foot yam to generate more income for my family and I will try to grow it systematically”, said a local farmer who grow elephant foot yam. “I also thanked to officials who provided assistance to farmers to grow elephant foot yam”, he added.
There are 711 acres of elephant foot yam fields in 130 villages in Tedim Township, according to U Lian Kut Za That, deputy staff officer of the Township Agriculture Department.
