15 killed by roadside bomb in Afghanistan

28 November

Fifteen civilians, including children and women, have been killed in northern Afghanistan, when their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb blast.

The Interior Ministry says the incident occurred in Kunduz Province on Wednesday, while the vehicle was running on a main road.

The explosion destroyed the vehicle. Two other people were injured and taken to hospital.

No one has claimed responsibility for the explosion. Local authorities suspect it may have been caused by a bomb planted by Taliban insurgents targeting US troops or the Afghan government's security forces.

The US government had started peace negotiations with the Taliban and agreed in principle to partially withdraw American troops. But the talks were suspended in September, following a terrorist attack by the Taliban.
