2 feared dead as vehicle plunges into ravine in Mongpyin

Two people were killed and 27 others sustained minor injuries after a car fell into a gorge in Mongpyin Township, Eastern Shan State, the Ministry of Home Affairs reported.


The accident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. on 4 June between mileposts 363/3 and 363/2 on the Taunggyi-Kengtung-Tachilek Road in Tongta Town, Mongpyin Township. The vehicle carrying 29 people plunged into a 50 ft. deep ravine after the driver lost control of the car. Rescuers from local fire services stations rushed to the scene of accident to carry out a search and rescue operation for the traffic victims.


Two men were pronounced dead on the spot and 27 others were hurt in the incident. The injured people were transferred to a nearby hospital by ambulance from a local social organization.
