24.43 tons of illegal timber seized within a week

Forest Department under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is implementing various ways including the Community Monitoring and Reporting System (CMRS) to annihilate illegal logging and trading of forest products in collaboration with the people in the country.

From May 27 to June 2 this year, a combined team seized a total of 24.43 tons of illegal timber including 1.92 tons of teak, 1.18 tons of hardwood and 21.33 tons of other types of timbers in the country, according to the statistics sent by Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, state and regional Forest Departments.

In addition, a total of seven culprits were apprehended in connection with the cases along with three vehicles (or) machines, according to Forest Department.—MNA
