3 killed in firecracker factory blast in India's Uttar Pradesh

At least three people were killed and several others injured, some of them critically, Wednesday in a blast inside a firecracker factory in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said.

 

The blast took place at Kaptanganj in Kushinagar district, about 330 km east of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.

 

"Early today a blast took place inside a firecracker unit in Kaptanganj area here," a police official said. "Three people were killed and several others injured in the blast."

 

According to police, the blast shook the entire locality and damaged the house in which it was operating.

"We are trying to ascertain the cause of the blast," the police official said.

 

Following the incident, police teams and locals rushed to the spot to carry out rescue work.

 

Local media reports said the blast was caused due to leakage in cooking gas cylinder.

Accidental explosions are common at Indian fireworks factories and shops.
